Welcome back to Nourishing Your Inner Writer, a moon sign series. In stark contrast to last week’s water moons who have one mode: feel everything, deeply. Air moons are nurtured by a different energy entirely.
The element of air isn’t weighed down by concerns about emotion or resources. Air is intellectual, powered by communication. Air is also about speed. Communication begins with thought. Air’s cruise control is set to the speed of thought. This is why air vibes so well with fire. Fire brings action and enthusiasm, air brings the intellect and socialization. Fire wants to act on the great idea, air wants the logic to be sound and also collect the data along the way. Air moons find comfort in parsing through information.
The world wants you to believe that air moons simply don’t have emotions. Don’t fall for it. It’s not fair to pit “overly” emotional water signs against “emotionless” air signs. Air moons hold emotion close, they are not the ones who wear their heart on their sleeve. Each sign has strengths. Wit, intellect, and banter are all muscles that air flexes easily. Connection looks different for everyone. Air connects through communication. How do you hold language? In your mind. Mental stimulation is what an air moon wants.
Air Moons
Gemini ♊︎
The moon in Gemini is just a silly little guy. There is a refreshing curiosity that keeps the moon from taking itself too seriously. Ruled by Mercury, this moon would rather take knowledge seriously. Gemini wants to know, perceive. It collects facts. Part detective, part journalist, part knowledge hungry chismosa. Air signs are known for intellectualizing their feelings to a fault, emotional discomfort could bring out the sillies for the moon in Gemini. It shares an axis with Sagittarius, the class clown, after all. Gemini moon finds comfort in finding. But finding the information is only half the battle. Gemini also wants to dish it out. This is why the moon in Gemini finds ease in teaching, speaking and socializing.
Activities for Gemini Moon:
Give Up: Gemini is mutable. Mutable energy is neither the starter energy nor the keep going energy. Mutable signs let go. It’s okay to start something and not finish. Releasing yourself from the confines of completion allows you to follow your inner curiosity compass, and that will likely resonate with you much more than forcing yourself to finish a podcast that felt boring, or a book that didn’t deliver.
Info: Knowledge is power for everyone, but especially you, Gemini moon. Gemini is a jack of all trades. It knows a little bit about everything. Chase information. All stages of creation require research. The content of a fact based poem, compiling a manuscript, querying. Pick something and go bonkers learning. Your moon will thank you.
Chat: The moon in Gemini needs to chat. It must. They were the ones who longed for the fabled “own phone line” in the 90s. Complete with a transparent corded phone. If you’re young and unfamiliar with land lines let me start with phones used to be just phones, not computers. Anyway, Gemini moon is soothed by the flurry of information. No detail is too small. It wants to know what you did, where’d you go, how was the drive, was your outfit cute, how was the weather, what’d you eat, was it good? Pinpoint a chat companion and dish a little bit.
Libra ♎︎
Libra’s symbol is the scales. Not only is Libra the most diplomatic air sign, it’s the most diplomatic sign period. Ruled by Venus, who wants more than just pleasure. In order to fully immerse oneself in pleasure, there must be peace. The moon in Libra is a peacemaker. It feels unease amidst conflict. Libra moon wants to build bridges between people and it’s really good at it. Peace, love and aesthetic. Most of the time, libran priorities are sweet, airy. See: Disney princess. There may not be a lot of grit in Libra, but connection is a power of its own. It sits opposite Aries on the axis of relationship. Relationships are valuable, and Libra moon makes them a critical part of feeling nourished.
Activities for Libra Moon:
Beautify: Aesthetic only seems simple because we live in a patriarchy. Aesthetic is written off as frivolous. In reality, aesthetic is super cognitive. Libra knows there is much more to beautifying. Libra moons know the psychological effects of a peaceful room, the perfect outfit. Being discerning about decorating and beauty has an effect on how we feel. Trust and use your personal aesthetic compass. Let yourself beautify something, whatever that means to you.
Balance: You can apply this in any way it resonates. Because the moon has so much to do with the body and how we experience life, an actual physical balancing practice could really hit the spot. The simple act of putting attention toward where the imbalances in life occur is a Libra moon pastime.
Prefer: Air is analytical. Libra gets this reputation of being indecisive, and maybe it is. Even if it is, so what? Libra’s indecision usually stems from the desire to please. Deciding is the nature of both Aries and Libra, but Libra needs to dance around the decision a little bit before it commits. Preferring, however, is much different than deciding. All the pros of weighing a situation without the cons of a fallout. Preference is a very Venusian thing. Think: ‘they love me they love me not’ to the tune of ‘I like this, I don’t like this…’. Whether it’s window shopping or building a list of places you want to submit to, Libra moon is happy and comfortable honing its immaculate taste.
Aquarius ♒︎
Aquarius is kinda weird. Air is kinda weird. It’s everywhere and nowhere. Fixed air, I’m going to say, weirdest. And it’s the hill I’ll die on. Air moves, that’s its nature. We breathe constantly. Air in, air out. So what happens when air is fixed? It’s even more of a paradox than fixed fire. Because candles exist, torches, too. Fixed air is strong in an otherworldly way. Aquarius is fixed in its vision for the future. So when the moon, our method of connecting and sifting through what living entails, is filtered through Aquarius things get… weird.Aquarius is ruled by Saturn, which is far away, remote, and very concerned with boundaries. To have an Aquarius moon is to be nourished by space, to revel in the disconnection. To be a misfit. The moon in Aquarius is a rebel on an instinctual level.
Activities for Aquarius Moon:
Cool: The things you think are cool ARE COOL. Don’t ever doubt that, Aquarius moon. I fully support quantum leaping into your next fad or obsession with reckless abandon. Just because the rest of the world hasn’t caught on yet means nothing. Expressing your unique outlook adds depth and satisfaction for the moon in Aquarius.
Solitude: We all need connection. It is both human nature and the moon’s. The moon in Aquarius also needs time alone to process and analyze. Aquarius is such an outlier of the zodiac that people often judge its preferred way to connect. Libra and Gemini, being cardinal and mutable, reach toward the other, reach toward change. As a fixed sign, Aquarius is the air sign that has the obligation of staying put. A lot of Aquarius’ heavy lifting is done in the mind. The result of this is the affinity for intellectualizing everything. Being aloof isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and it isn’t synonymous with uncaring. Recharging with alone time to parse through and input the emotional highs and lows of the day soothes Aquarius moon.
Tech: Aquarius is a future-oriented sign. Technology bridges the gap and brings us closer to the ideal future Aquarius keeps on its mind. The moon in Aquarius is concerned with systems. The systems we live in and how they affect everyone. Aquarius wants to reimagine the world. Gadgets and gizmos could foster Aquarius moon’s revolutionary spirit. Zoning out with anything under the tech/puzzle umbrella could feel restorative and grounding. From one Aquarius to another, might I suggest Tetris or I Love Hue?
