ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Details
How can writing about food open up evocative spaces of comfort, family, ancestral lineage, memory, shared rituals, and desires? How can writing through and about food strengthen our communities and open up our creative craft? Along with celebrating and exploring food writing by poets such Naomi Shihab Nye, Audre Lorde, Chen Chen, and Lucille Clifton, this class will offer numerous delicious writing prompts and opportunities for feedback, connection, and sharing.
What you will learn
You will learn poetry craft elements such as voltas, rhythm/meter, and sensory details.
You will learn how food can open up memories, engaging creative nonfiction in poetry.
You will learn from your fellow writers when reading, writing, and sharing in a generous, safe, and inclusive space.
Workshop takeaways
Writing about food will open up new ideas for poems we will write in class, but also outside of class. The workshop will also offer a reading list of food-inspired literature.
All Literary Liberation classes take place online and are accessible to students anywhere in the world.
