May’s Community Prompt
My 4 year old daughter went through a phase when she would express her anger by saying, “I’m not Turi anymore!”
I have been thinking a lot about dis/embodiment. I strive to be more in my body, but I have mostly been noticing how not-in-my-body I am (which maybe is part of the journey?) and asking myself: Where am I when I’m not right here? Where do I go? Where can I be found and returned to myself? Or in what ways might my spirit/presence be useful as less rooted & concrete and more floating & atmosphere?
Taking a leap from the concept of embodiment for the purposes of this prompt, I ask you the same. Where do you go when you’re not in your body? Where can you be found and returned or just found and left for a moment to finish weaving curses against capitalism & genocide, remembering someone/something you’ve lost, etc.? This language of “not being in our bodies” implies expansiveness. It sounds to me like we each have a Self that can escape us. It means we can tuck ourselves (or parts of ourselves) inside an heirloom; we can time travel and make our intentions felt on the other side of this earth.
So where does your mind/memory/heart take you beyond your body? Where do parts of yourself linger for your to return, collect, and bring back into your Self?
