Lunar Lit is a writer’s guide to astrology, exploring how to elevate your creative practice and connect the many threads between writing and astrology.
I’ve been doling out a lot of harsh realities lately. Blame the sky, 2025 has been a brat, I’m just the translator, I beg of you. BUT one of my favorite things about astrology is that everything keeps moving. The tricky stuff and the sweet stuff ebb and flow, roll by us like waves. Now I get to bring you some goooood news!
😎 Friday, June 20th marks the beginning of Cancer season and with that, as always, the summer solstice.
☀️ Summer Solstice is…
first day of Summer
longest day of the year, shortest night of the year
derived from Latin, meaning “sun stands still”
We get 2 solstices a year. Winter and summer. In the winter, we planted seeds and got intentional. Now, the sun has come back, bit by bit. We are out of our winter hidey holes and warming up. While in our Capricorn era, with our noses to the grindstone, working, we were sparking this moment. Now, are ready to enjoy the fruits of what we planted.
☀️How have your intentions grown?
☀️How have they shifted?
Summer always begins with Cancer season. Summer brings the warm fuzzies. Extra time with the kids, picnics, and pool days. Getting together with friends and enjoying a meal. Cancer stuff.
This solstice is special. I could go on and on about Cancer and all its facets, it’s precious for a lot of reasons, but for now I’ll stick to the good news. Every planet has a favorite place to be. Jupiter, the greater benefic, the zodiac’s fairy godmother, LOVES to be in Cancer. And now, after twelve long years, Jupiter is in Cancer again.
Solstice celebrating has a little extra magic. Home and family endeavors have buoyant support. Compassion for others runs rampant. When my feed became the No Kings protest I had to smirk at Jupiter in Cancer a little bit, because people were coming together in protective (Cancer) ways, showing compassion (Jupiter) for people who share their home (Cancer). And the turnout was amped up, record breaking amounts (so very Jupiter).
I hope this Jupiter in Cancer we are sparked to protect in this way. Big ways, loudly compassionate ways. Normal means nothing anymore. As creative forces, we have the mantle of using art and words to lead the way forward. I hope all our wishes and prayers collect in the proverbial ethers and become protection for the kidnapped and protesters, and become the downfall of ICE (and every other evil tool of empires). I hope our protective actions spur more protective action. Remember, “[us] puny little ants outnumber [them] a hundred to one”. Let your compassion and critical thinking lead the way, maybe go watch A Bug’s Life with the kids.
