ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Overview
“What happens in this house, stays in this house” is a common refrain for many families. However, this phrase oftentimes leaves unresolved issues begging to not only be written, but also shared. In this three-week course, writers will learn how to use literary devices, discretion, and authenticity to pen an essay about the impact that people and events have had on them. We will read excerpts from memoirs or essays, discuss them, and practice one strategy for writing about a lived experience. Each week, we will focus on a specific guideline for sharing your truth and put the strategies into practice by making revisions.
