Details
Pleasure and Delight are universal pursuits. Khalil Gibran says Pleasure is a freedom-song. If you are ready to write your freedom song then this course is for you.This course taps into the well of desires that live in all of us. Those desires can be docile or decadent. It is the perfect course for writers who are enthusiastic about themselves and ready to take back the joy that is our birthright. The title of this course, See Me Naked, is taken from the seminal text by Tara T. Green that explores how black women in the interwar era defined pleasure and delight for themselves and lived abundant lives.
What you will learn
You will learn how to develop storytelling skills around pleasure and delight.
We will read and discuss pleasure/delight essays that will show you different structures and ways to present pleasure directly and indirectly.
You will learn how to become comfortable revising.

Course Skeleton
Week 1: Choosing a Topic/Defining your Pleasure

5 Types of Structures for Personal Essays.
Where to begin with your personal essay.
Week 2: Reading about Pleasure
We will read an excerpt of two essays about pleasure and delight so that we can begin to see how these topics are tackled by other writers.
Week 3: Writing Your Pleasures
Acoustic Reading/Intuitive Listening.
Share out of the essay you began last week.
Short critique of your essay.
Week 4: Revising
All About Editing/Revising:
This class session will break down how to self-edit/revise your writing through a workshop where your essay will be read aloud and the class will help in guiding your revision.
All Literary Liberation classes take place online and are accessible to students anywhere in the world. This workshop will be recorded.

Zainab (Zee) Khadijah Karim is a passionate educator, prolific writer, and community builder with an unwavering dedication to nurturing the talents of aspiring writers. With over a decade of experience in the field of education, Zee has found her true calling in inspiring and empowering individuals to discover their voices through the written word. She is most proud of being community-taught by other black women writers.
