I’m multiracial, Latinx/Indigenous/Black, and White. Am I included in the Global Majority? Asking for anyone like me, who is never quite sure where we belong (or don’t).

I am so sorry I missed this, Carolita! Yes, you are included. I'm going to add this as a clarifier since it seems to come up more than I anticipated, but global majority is:

"Global majority" is a collective term for people of African, Asian, indigenous, Latin American, or mixed-heritage backgrounds, who constitute approximately 85 percent of the global population. It has been used as an alternative to terms which are seen as racialized like "ethnic minority" and "person of color" (POC), or more regional terms like "visible minority" in Canada and "Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic" (BAME) in the United Kingdom. (taken from wikipedia)

What does this mean? “Only submissions by writers of the Global majority will be considered for publication.”

Thanks for the question, Sadie! In a constant effort to recenter the voices and knowledge of Black, Asian, Indigenous, Latine(x) people, we do not refer to ourselves as ethnic or any other minority. Global majority as a term rejects the idea that we are somehow less than in relation to whiteness. Long answer short, we are accepting work from Black, Asian, Indigenous and Latine(x) people exclusively for this column.

I hope this is helpful for others who might also be wondering!

Hi Sherisa. I'm an Indian writer based in the Middle East. Would my submission be considered?
