Welcome to Literary Liberation!
Everything you need to know, updated often and all in one post!
What this is:
Literary Liberation is a learning community for writers, artists and activists. Although it began in 2023, it is now the hub for Raising Mothers, a digital literary magazine celebrating the parenting and personal narratives of the global majority.
This is a space for discovery, commitment and craft building. We are open to everyone, but the voices of those most marginalized will always always come first. This is a space about equity, so if you are white person following or subscribed to us, strongly consider donating a membership to someone else in this community if you can.
Each month we host at least two instructors teaching different topics or in different genres.
There’s at least one scholarship available for each workshop provided. You can choose to sign up with a preference or just sit in the lottery and we’ll email you when your name is drawn.
How it works:
Anyone can sign up for a workshop, so long as there are no restrictions on who can attend.
Classes are filled on first come, first served. In the event there are more participants than spaces available, you’ll be contacted with options.
We publish columns that either center or are tangential to writing, the writing life, reading, wellness, etc. You can pitch us your ideas—the more creative, the better!
Fill out this form if you’d like to teach with us. We’re always looking to build relationships with new folks!
Memberships help us to offset the cost of scholarships and fund our projects. Our prices are set and meant to make access to learning achievable to a broad group of people.
Free subscriptions give you general access to most of what we publish, since most of it is public.
Paid subscriptions give you access to our private WhatsApp community, full access to everything published and our archive. You will also gain access to our recorded workshops and any self-paced workshops we publish. Founding members (or VIPS) also get to choose one full workshop they would like to attend for free each year.

NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS!
Outside of having columnists, we’re also accepting submissions on a whole host of essays, roundups, interviews, and more related to writing and wellness. To submit work for consideration click the post below:
We also have volunteer positions available to build our team!
My thoughts on everything three months in:
I am learning that I need to imagine greater for myself. That’s what everything following will boil down to. I couldn’t see how many new people Literary Liberation would bring into the fold three months ago, let alone a year ago when I landed on the name and focus. I figured it might appeal to some folks and I would be happy with that, but every day the subscriber list grows and I know that’s in part of my hard work, but also this is resonating.
I want to thank some specific groups of people now. This isn’t an exhaustive list by any means. There’s over 1,500 of you in total these past 90 days.
Our contributors:
, , , and thank you so much for all you put into this community.Paid members:
, (my first paid member!), , , , , and thank you all so much for believing in this work and seeing my effort and vision. Most active members: Sylvia, Audrey, Aisha, C. Elyse and more—you are the heartbeat of this space. Thank you for being in community here.
Summer is officially here and I plan to slow down over July. I want each of you to feel you have a shared vested interest in this blossoming community and to engage one another with love. I look forward to getting to know more of you. I want to hear what you’d like to see in this space and how we can be of better service in the months to come.
If you were on the fence about becoming a member, here’s your opportunity
If you want to contribute a one-time donation you can do so here.
You can also contribute to our scholarship fund.
Another dope way to be in community is donating a subscription to a member directly.
Stay radical, Sherisa
You’re welcome, twice and had I known a year ago, I would have promptly joined the party!
Are previously published (on Substack) works okay to submit?
